Without solar, an installed battery is arbitraging time-of-use pricing charging when power is cheap, discharging when it’s expensive. That can work depending on your plan and your usage pattern, but the margin is thinner and the payback period is long. Anyone presenting it as an obvious saving is skipping the arithmetic.
